TEHRAN – Esteghlal football team edged past Damash in Iran Professional League (IPL) on Monday night. 

Esteghlal defeated Damash 1-0 before a crowd of about 70,000 spectators in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium. 

Esteghlal captain Farhad Majidi took advantage of a blunder from Damash defender Magno Batista in the 32nd minute and put the ball in the back of the net. 

In the second half, Damash dominated much of the possession but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.

“We dropped physically in the second half and I think Damash played better. The most important thing is that we won the game,” Esteghlal coach Parviz Mazlumi said during post match news conference.
